Why spend transformation is top of mind at CACUBO 2025

Budgets are tight. Expectations are high. Here’s what leaders are focused on.

With tighter budgets, staffing constraints, and increased scrutiny over institutional spending, procurement, and finance leaders across the central region are rethinking how they buy, spend, and save. These four priorities are taking center stage in 2025 — and will be front and center at CACUBO.

Ensure budget discipline across departments

Decentralized spend and manual processes make it hard to enforce policy, track spend, and hit budget targets. Institutions are searching for ways to bring more structure and accountability to institutional purchasing.

Modernize procurement & AP workflows

Paper-based, email-driven, or outdated systems slow everything down. From sourcing to payments, higher ed teams are moving toward connected, end-to-end procurement operations.

Improve visibility to drive better decisions

Finance teams are demanding real-time data on spend, suppliers, and contracts — not end-of-quarter guesswork. Better visibility supports forecasting, compliance, and long-term planning.

Strengthen supplier relationships & risk controls

Rising vendor costs and supply chain risk require smarter supplier management. Centralized systems help teams build stronger partnerships, reduce off-contract purchases, and mitigate risk.
